People First Language Bill Passes the Alabama Legislature
Jeff Ridgeway was on the Floor at the time of passage. People First and Alabama Dissablities Advocacy Coalition were instrumental in the bill passage. The Department of Mental Health and Mental Retardation (the name will change now) and the Alabama Disabilities Advocacy Program were supporters of the Bill.
People First and the Alabama Disabilities Advocacy program will host 5 regional meetings on voting in October.
People First will also have regional elections during the meetings. More information will follow.
People First of Alabama is asking for co-Sponsors to help stage their 2008 Conferences. For 2008 People First of Alabama is co-Sponsoring Regional Conferences instead of a single State Conference. Conferences will be hosted by the People First Regional teams and co-sponsored by local People First chapters, ADAP, and other supporting agencies or groups.
Although it will be up to the Regional Teams and their co-sponsor, the conferences will probably be held in or around ; Huntsville, Birmingham, Tuscaloosa, Montgomery, and Mobile. The theme for the conferences will be “Voting” and should be scheduled for late September or early October.
Sample of responsibilities of co-sponsors:
Co-sponsoring agency will provide logistical support (assist with meeting room, registration on site help etc)
Co-sponsoring agency will help secure media coverage
Co Sponsoring agency will provide food and refreshments
Co-sponsoring agency will assist People First members to conduct election.
