October 28, 2006 Minutes

Amanda called the meeting to order. There were 12 self-advocates at the meeting. Everyone went around and introduced themselves. Cindy read the minutes from the last meeting. Angie made a motion to accept the minutes as read, Mike 2nd the motion and all agreed.

Amanda asked for the old business. Holly suggested more training on “How to Run a Meeting”. Everyone thought that would be a good idea.
“Dial a Ride”….has limited service…now on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays also for church on Sundays. The charge is $1.00 per trip…
Mike and Holly talked about how to use “Dial a Ride”

  1. Call the day before
  2. Tell them the time and place you want to go to
  3. Give your name and address…leave on the machine
  4. Call #242-7454 for Dial a Ride

Amanda wanted to know why it cost money. Holly and Jeanette discussed the reasons. Mike and Donzell added information. Some of the problems with Dial a Ride have been:

  1. Drivers do not show up (Angie will call Terissa at Ability Alliance and let her know
  2. Self-advocates need to call the drivers as soon as possible if there plans change

Amanda then asked if there was no more old business if they could move on to new business.
People First of Alabama conference will be January 12-14
2 hotels are in the running…The Embassy and the Lodge however a decision will be made soon.
Meeting with the Mayor of Northport…Discussion on transportation. Angela will check with Terissa on the thank you to the Mayor of Northport. There will be a meeting with the Mayor of Tuscaloosa , Tuesday at 2:00 PM.
